Walking With Christ… Right Into a Bullet
April 2, 2008 by chillinatthecabstand
Reminiscing on my elementary school (and a year and a half of middle school) days at a pseudo-fundamentalist Catholic school, I remembered a rather disturbing story our hyper-religious/fundamentalist English teacher told our class.
It took place at the Columbine massacres and one of the two involved boys was making his rounds, shooting students and teachers when he ran into some Christian chick - he tells her to deny Jesus and she lives. “No!” yells the foolish girl.
Bang bang.
Girl dies, gets buried, doesn’t have a conscious mind with which to realize there is no afterlife, and so on and so forth.
Now here’s the (extra?) disturbing part - our teacher said that this girl was some sort of example or role model for us.
How is martyrdom over something so trivial anything to be emulated or proud of?
Come ooooon. Really, if she denied Jesus, couldn’t she just go to reconciliation and get forgiven for it? Actually, I know a girl that probably would have said “no” - she’s kind of stupid and she is a huge bitch.
Not to say that the dead girl was stupid and a bitch, but that happens to be the kind of person who would yell “No!” with a Glock in her face.
Let’s examine this further.
Now, to be dumb enough to say “no,” I am expecting this girl had a few key personality traits/beliefs in common with this less-than-genius girl I think would also say “no”:
1. She was probably defiant and bossy and was just really pissed off that someone had the sheer balls to tell her to do anything
2. She probably thought beyond a reasonable doubt that she would end up in heaven
3. She had probably been raised to think that her religion made her better than other people, i.e. she was probably fundamentalist.
4. She probably wasn’t the brightest crayon in the box, so to speak.
5. She was probably proud of herself for being a Christian.
Actually, I am pretty sure that this story is just some Christian lie to show how dedicated their kids are, but still, even if it is a lie, it raises an interesting question – what kind of person would have said no?
Would you have said no?

Typical ignornat filth: “How is martyrdom over something so trivial anything to be emulated or proud of?”
You think it’s so trivial, you try it. Just like how you beg Christians not to take penicillin our God invented ( and that you also use, owing to oour good graces ) and pray for a hollocost of Christians, if you want to ste an example telling people how trivila it is to eat a bullet in defense of your everlasting faith, prove it to us. Or shut up and rspect the dead.
“Or shut up and rspect the dead.”
firstly its RESPECT!!, and more so why cant the christians let the dead be dead?? Jesus was a real man and he died, yet people have waged wars in his name, and his teachings, why cant people just admit the man is dead, and contrary to what ever you believe he cannot come back. Sorry to burst your bubble. *POP*
It is a trivial thing, xtian - I would decry atheism to save my life! Most sane people would.
As for the 2nd christian challenge, I do not expect or encourage anyone to actually give up food, medicine, and technology. Only an idiot would do so.
It is a hypothetical dare to make a point, the point that if christianity were true, christians could and should give it all up.
No sane person actually would, though.
PS Angryxtian - would you have said no?
Typical. Backpeddling.
Of course I wouldn’t renounce my fiath. I’m only in this world because God put me here. Who am I to argue if He says my time has come. Why woud I risk losing something that lasts forever to hold on for just a little longer to something I can’t keep??
The young girl at Columbine was much braver than you’ll evr be - you said that yourself.
But let me ask you a question. Do you think she wouldn’t have died no mattr what she said? She might or might not have prolongued her life some amount of years. That’s if you can trust a athiest terrorist, I’m not really convinced you can when he said he won’t kill someonoe if thy say something he likes. But she would still die like all of us eventually will even if she did survive that day. Instead she met God with full glory.
And I guess the proof of that is the pople like yourself who need to spit on her gave and call her stupid.
lol Oh, Angryxtian, you amuse me. Do you listen to yourself talk?
It’s not noble to essentially kill yourself by insulting people with guns. It’s just plain stupid.
Also, you obviously did NOT read my post as I said at the end that this is probably just an urban legend and I am thus not spitting on any graves or disrespecting any legacies.
Chillin’
You should get your facts straight.
According to legend, they pointed the gun at her and asked her if she believed in God. She said yes. They shot her.
I’ve often wondered at the accuracy of this story. From what I’ve been able to determine, it’s more along the lines of what really happened aboard United 93. The whole “Let’s Roll!” thing was really quite a subdued affair and not all pomp and righteous arrogance as was reported.
These stories make great fodder for the Dobson-loving crowd, and the way they capitalize and oversensationalize these situations makes me sick. Surely it’s not what the victims intended during their final moments. But everyone needs a hero, and so we have Cassie Bernall and Todd Beemer.
lol “fact”
I’m just blogging about how my old teacher recounted it to us - it’s not like I heard this on the internet or something. Maybe she just heard it wrong, I don’t know. Or maybe she changed it to be more “moving.” lol
Regardless…
Ha! That was kinda my point. The “facts” get a spin and pretty soon a legend is born.
It’s funny that you brought this up because I just picked up the Flyleaf CD the other day after seeing a blurb about them in Rolling Stone. I didn’t realize they were a Christian band (or rather a band of Christians, or a band *made* or Christians, or whatever the latest buzz is). There’s a song on there titled “Cassie” which is basically their take on the story and how she’s a hero and all.
Enjoying your blog, my friend. Keep it up . . .
I’m not really sure there was a fact part to it to begin with lol
I should look it up on Snopes or whatever that one urban legend-busting site is.
I’ll also look up that song on wikipedia to see if it has any details on this lil myth…
Found some info that says it’s all a hoax:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cassie_Bernall
We’ll never know what really happened, I imagine. As with all things of this nature, there are many conflicting reports and few eyewitnesses who can claim to have a clear headed memory of that day.
But it sure makes a good story, doesn’t it?
Assume God is real. And assume the only way to get to God is through Jesus (who we must also assume is God). Also assume that Jesus really said that if you deny him (being God) before men, then he would deny you before God (at the final judgment or whatever). If all this is true, then whoever denies Christ (whatever that entails) is at great risk of being rejected by the God they so desparately want to hang with when it’s all over.
There are so many ways to fuck up salvation.
That’s why Mike Warnke, the disgraces Christian comedian used to joke that, after the altar call at his shows, everyone who accepted Christ would be taken backstage and shot - just so they wouldn’t lose their reward by messing up once the door hit them in the butt on the way out.
Sad, but true.
My god nothign you rite has any basis in relity!!
“It’s not noble to essentially kill yourself by insulting people with guns.”
(1) The girl didn’t kill herself! She was killed by ATHIEST TERRORISTS!! How can you blame that as suicide!
(2) The girl didn’t even insult the athiests. All she did was answre a question they threw at her and answer it hoestly.
(3) It’s telling that you thnk honesty is stupid but it’s a lot mor telling you think it’s justified. What a grat follow up for yoru “Hey Christians don’t take your own medicine God handed down to you” post. You’re nothing but a bigot who wnants to see Christians murdered.
You’v revealed yourself for what you truly are. And you’ve proven that athiests really are cowardly imoral things. Nice work.
“You’v revealed yourself for what you truly are. And you’ve proven that athiests really are cowardly imoral things. Nice work.”
>>OK firstly from now angryxian before you post ANYTHING i want you to put it in word and use the damn spell check, Now to my point, how has Chillin proven that atheists are cowards?? He hasn’t is anything he has proven that some are intelligent, and because of him he has EXPOSED YOU, for what you are, a someone who uses lies to try and bring other people down, without trying to show any evidence of such damningly false claims.
tysdaddy:
I suppose, but surely god would know that they didn’t mean it and they could be forgiven. I think I remember reading somewhere that the only sin the bible says in unforgivable is denying the holy spirit. Besides, Peter denies Jesus three times and I’m sure he got into heaven, if there is one.
“1. The girl didn’t kill herself, she was killed by atheist terrorists!”
>>Have you ever seen the movie Scarface? (I’ll assume yes, either way this metaphor works) Remember in the drug deal scene wear Tony has the gun in his face and says “Fuuuck you!” and then they go carve up his brother with a chainsaw?
If Tony said Fuck you! and they got pissed and shot him, is it at least PARTIALLY Tony’s fault for stirring shit with a gun in his face? Yes, it is, as he was provoking someone who was clearly over the edge. The girl in this little story did the same basic thing.
…
“2. The girl didn’t even insult the atheists, she just answered the question honestly.”
>>They obviously wanted her to say “no,” and saying “yes” was just asking for trouble. There is a place for pride and honesty, and this was not it by any means.
…
“3. It’s telling that you think honesty is stupid, but it’s a lot more telling that you think it’s justified. What a great follow up for your “Hey Christians don’t take your medicine that God handed down to you” post. You’re nothing but a bigot who wants to see Christians murdered.”
>>I don’t think it’s justified and I do not approve the actions taken at Columbine by the shooters.
You obviously don’t understand that my 2nd Christian challenge is an ironic/sarcastic tease, a JOKE, as I have pointed out in 3 different posts addressed to you.
I don’t want to see Christians murdered, or anyone murdered, for that matter. It’s Christians who support capital punishment, not me.
…
“You’ve proved that atheists really are cowardly immoral beings.”
>>Just pray to your god that you’re never in a hostage situation, that’s all I have to say.
…
…
Josh:
Thanks for sticking up for me, this guy’s a really piece of work. And I agree with you, I think that anyone who reads the four-ish posts I did about his blog or the four-ish you did would realize right away that he is a spiteful liar. Actually, I’m sure that anyone who actually read his blog would realize that too lol Except for Paul Jub, who likes this guy.
What a peace of work!! How can a person equat swaring at a person and using the kind of nasty filfy language athiests like so much with being asked a question and asering “Yes.”
The only way you could do that is if ur living in such a fantasy word that’s not even connected to raelity at all.
Wow.
Look, it was an analogy. She was stirring shit up with a gun in her face - that’s not smart. Ever.
Again, let’s hope you’re never in a hostage situation.
You already made it clear you think the truth and being a Christian is human feesees. But you keep avoiding to anser my point, little boy.
OK, what mysterious point is this that I am avoiding?
