In keeping with my blog’s new subtitle (check it – “protecting the world from theist douche baggery one post at a time”) I’m going to be posting responses to all the christian blog douche baggery I find on the web. This time out is an especially arrogant/ignorant post from Some Christian Blogger (this is how I will refer to anyone I respond to; this does not just mean one blogger specifically).
OK, here we go again.
I’ve cut the scripture quotes out of this douche-fest just to save space. His words summarize and interpret the scriptures enough that we don’t need them to be present. I’m not linking his blog this time. Posts like these don’t deserve hits.
P.S. Check out this all-too-true post: http://de-conversion.com/2008/03/14/what-if-i-behaved-towards-christians-like-they-behave-toward-me/
SOME CHRISTIAN BLOGGER:
“Message to those who mock and scoff Christians: you’re not doing anything so special, you’re just fulfilling God’s plan.
Message to those who hate Christians: you are also fulfilling God’s plan. Careful that your hatred doesn’t evolve into actions of violence, or you will be fulfilling even more dramatic portions of God’s plan.
After the prophesied persecutions (see scriptures below), there will be a time of great tribulation experienced by non-believers, during which time you will wish that stones would fall on you to save you from your suffering. After the great tribulation, Jesus will return and all the believers will be with Him for the great war against Satan and His followers. God will make His children rulers over cities. Jesus will rule with a rod of iron.
…
Atheists sometimes ask, “Why would God allow evil?” But atheists mustn’t use “evil” in their arguments when they do not even believe in it. How can you know something is unjust unless you know a standard of justice by which to judge it?
“Is there any dogma more unsupported by the facts than from the scientist who stands up and says, ‘I know there is no God’? Science is woefully unsuited to ask the question of God in the first place.”
- geneticist Francis Collins
Atheists are often quick to point out the evil that has been (wrongfully) committed by supposed Christians. What about atrocities done under regimes holding atheistic worldviews? China in the 20th century: 65 million deaths. (Slightly worse than abortion in America in 30 years!) Where shall we even begin with Stalin and the godless USSR?
Atheists put a lot of stock in empiricism. How can they explain the apparent immaterial component of humans? What do you call it? The soul? The mind? The conscious? An idea? Love? Freedom? These are the very things that make us human, intangible as they are!
…
Any second-year science student knows that you cannot disprove the existence of God.
Therefore, agnostics can defend their position.
Atheists say there is no God, in the name of science. This is embarrassingly unprofessional of them, and reveals their true assertion: they don’t want God to exist. There’s a huge difference. They just won’t be honest about it. That is the atheist lie.
[Edit] Now all-of-a-sudden all of my intellectual atheist friends don’t think semantics matters anymore. Nonsense-you carefully chose the label “atheist”. You’re proving to me that you’re a pack of liars. You’ve lied to us all, and you’ve lied to yourselves. Just admit it: YOU DON’T WANT GOD TO EXIST”
MY RESPONSE:

>>The “prophecy” is a complete joke. OF COURSE Christians will eventually be persecuted. In a way, this has already been fulfilled, considering Christian persecution in Rome (which would have happened way after these scriptures were written down).
Watch this amazing prophecy – Sometime in the future, Democrats will be persecuted for their political views.
Wow. Did that take any insight to prophesize? No. It’s an inevitable happening.
Besides, I’m sure prophecies about persecuted Christians were just made up so Christians would remain strong and aloof through their problems, as you are doing.
“Atheists sometimes ask, ‘Why would God allow evil?’ But atheists mustn’t use ‘evil’ in their arguments when they do not even believe in it. How can you know something is unjust unless you know a standard of justice by which to judge it?”
>>I think I’m going to borrow an entertaining refutation of this from Richard Dawkins. Just citing my source…
OK, you say that to understand evil or good we must have some ultimate standard of good to compare it to. You refer to this standard as ”god.”
Here’s why this is just stupid: Let’s say you sit down on a bus and the person next to you – obviously homeless – smells just awful, awful, awful. How do you know that he smells awful? Do you need some ultimate, infinitely bad stench to compare it to?
No, you don’t – you just know(via your senses and common sense) that he smells awful without having to compare it to anything else. It’s the same with good/evil. Besides, good/evil is subjective, which is why some christians think condoms are evil and some don’t. Either “God” didn’t line out the rules very well or the rules he laid out were stupid (probably both).

>>Just because he said it doesn’t make it true. Good quote, though.
“Atheists are often quick to point out the evil that has been (wrongfully) committed by supposed Christians. What about atrocities done under regimes holding atheistic worldviews? China in the 20th century: 65 million deaths. (Slightly worse than abortion in America in 30 years!) Where shall we even begin with Stalin and the godless USSR?”
>>There is a big difference between atheist and Christian genocide. Every social group, every religion, ultimately commits some atrocity (or one of its members does).
You need to understand that Christian (and Muslim) genocide was inspired/caused by their religious beliefs (except for Hitler’s Nazism, which was only about half rooted in religion).
Atheists that commit evil did not do so because of their religious beliefs; they did it for politics or for personal power and glory. Their personal religious beliefs did not influence their choices. They just wanted power and influence.
And don’t say that they wanted those things because they were atheists, because Catholicism didn’t stop Hitler from wanting (and getting) the same things.
“Atheists put a lot of stock in empiricism. How can they explain the apparent immaterial component of humans? What do you call it? The soul? The mind? The conscious? An idea? Love? Freedom? These are the very things that make us human, intangible as they are! ”
>>The brain is still being studied to discover these things. We should have an answer within the decade.
But, for now, I’ll have to concede that we don’t know everything about the brain.
What we do know, though, is that hallucinatory drugs can seriously distort your subjective view of reality (LSD, salvia, etc.) and can seriously affect your love, mind, freedom, etc.. Drugs affect you physically, not spiritually. I doubt a magical soul would be affected by drugs that affect only the physical body. However, drug intake causes the nullification or serious alteration of the qualities you described. This suggests that these things you listed are physical phenomenon.

>>Conversely, any second-year science student know that you cannot prove the existence of God. Even Christians must concede this (except for the crazy ones). Since you cannot possibly prove the existence of god, all Christians are – by definition – agnostics, too.
So, what, are we all agnostics? No, you are theists, I am an atheist. These labels are just used to express which way we think the proof (or, in your case, mythology) leans. I believe that, since there is NO proof for a god, that one probably doesn’t exist.
And I know beyond a doubt that the god worshipped by christians, muslims, and jews doesn’t exist. The attributes, deeds, and books they attribute to him are too contradictory and silly.
If there is a god, no religion or science has discovered him yet. That is the only degree of agnosticism in atheism.
You know – and have readily admitted – that God cannot be proved and is not being proved. Therefore, you have lied to me, your readers, and yourself. YOU JUST WANT GOD TO EXIST!

I only have one critisicm. Hitler was entirely unmotivated by God. In fact, any religious leader who dared preach of the evils of the Nazis were methodically struck down. The church had no place in Mein Kampf, or in any of Hitler’s mindless propaganda. Besides that, nicely done.
Thanks, Amanda, I appreciate the praise.
As for Hitler, he was a Roman Catholic. I’ll put some links to sites that corroborate this at the bottom of the post.
I’m sure they killed anti-Nazi priests. Hell, I’m sure they killed any anti-Nazi people.
I’m also pretty sure that Nazi rallies were hosted by churches, but I’m just gathering that from a film adaptation of “Anne Frank” I saw on TV, so that could be inaccurate. lol

Phew, long post! Didn’t read it all.
But I am so down with the war on douche-baggery (Bush has got to fit in there somewhere), and I’m glad to see another fellow anti-douchist.
*salute*
*salute*
I salute you, my fellow anti-douchist.
lol
I don’t think I’ll go at Bush, at least for now.
Al Franken pretty much killed his ass in “Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them.”
I loved your post…just laughed it…wud you like to guest write in my blog…u have complete freedom to lampoon my posts, if you so wish and just voice whatever you want to voice… great stuff, keep scribbling…by the way, am no Christian but one of those guys who desperately want to believe God exists!
I have to say this – Crick was right. Science is not the subject to discuss the existence of God. It is the subject to discuss the evidence presented as a proof of God. After that, its down to philosophy to try and sort it out.
