az this post’s title shows, i think reparations are bullshit. i can c y u’d want em tho. who wouldn’t want more money?
basically the way i c it iz this: i’ve never done any racist shit to anyone in my entire life (hell, i say cracker i suppoze, but that duznt count since im a cracker) and shouldn’t have to pay tax dollars to make up something people i’m not even related to did hundreds uv yearz ago.
btw, you dont c jews askin for holocaust reparations. i wont take anyone wanting slavery reparations seriously until they demand some holocaust reparations, too.

Although I am sure that had this country never been discovered by Europeans, that that would not have stopped nature from sending hurricanes, tornados or any other natural disaster to this land. I gotta agree with lamarmickens on this one. Except on WWII and II, what did the US have to do with those two conflicts? Lamar is certainly right about slave labour providing free labour which was pivotal in the growth of the US economy, as was exploitation of resources and propping up tyrannical dictatorships/malevolent governments that supported US multinationals around the world (Indonesia, Chile, apartheid South Africa, to name a few). We have something similar to reparations here (New Zealand), where indigenous Maori are receiving payments to settle historical and contemporary grievances. Although many people consider it to be a gravy train, there are several cases of the money being reinvested into the people, ensuring a more prosperous future (and present) for an otherwise underprivileged people. Yes, the treaty settlements are vulnerable to abuse, but these pail in comparison to the actions taken by the crown against Maori up until very recently. I would assume it to be similar in America concerning both African Americans and native Americans.

I think that the more American “White People” people that come into contact with people like yourself, who do undertsand the “perspective” from an African American point of view without being black will surely pave the way for cultural understanding–while “diminishing” the “strangle hold” like impact slavery and racism has had on my people.
I feel that everyon is entitled to their opinion. My only glitch is make sure your opinions are based upon facts. Something many Anglo Americans I refere to as “White Folks” who only see the color of my skin as a precusor for evil and villany.
Black people are impertinently good in nature. We do have some Black people that we call black folks; that hate. They are a “product” of the system-(slavery / racism, second class citizenship in America) that created this “mess” in the first place. I try to be fair and impartial when I can. I also try to stand up for what is fair, equal, right and true.
In America there are a lot of Whites that helped and were instrumental with the abolishment of slavery and racism and were critical people in the Civil Rights Movement. A lot of them never ever got credit–that was due to them; nor were not mentioned in the history books and even today-(many Whites living in today’s society that make significant contributions) towards removing the barriers of ignorance and shame.
These are the people I feel are my “true Anglo brothers and sisters” who see me as a person as I see them. I salute you underground for making the statement that you just made. We need more people like you not only in America, but across the world.
I still let people know that I am not a racist; I just “dislike White Folks.” Those people (White Folks) living in this country (America) that are white and only see the color of my skin as a threat or scourge . Now “White People” are different; they see me only as a person. The way I like and should be viewed. Nothing more; nothing less.
I’m merely bring up the contrast between White Folks and White People because of some comments I made earlier I part on another blog. And if you did not see that blog, I did not want to unjustly offend anyone with my remarks, descriptions or characterizations in reference to those (Whites) that are truly good natured and kind at heart.
I do not hate Black Folks because I too, am “one of them.” However, Black Folks fall into two categories-(1) the ones (like me) that hate only “White Folks” and not “White People.” And the others-(2) that hate “all Whites” including White People.
Whenever I find “Black Folks” that hate White People, I try and discourage them from this practice because “White People” are not our enemy. They (White People) simply are often summed up as “being racist” as a result of the racial mistreatment predominately by the Whites these Blacks-(2) had encountered from them.
Now if there are “White Folks” willing to stop hating me for the color of my skin, then I too can stop hating them. And there are a lot of White Folks that are just plain misguided.
And if they (White Folks) come to understand our plight and condition–and the impact this country has had upon my people and culture; then I am willing to forgive-(and I truly mean this) and start working with them on building a better future within our society that us “inclusive” to them.
To “White People” especially in America. I recognize, respect and appreciate you. Especially what some of your ancestors have done and the impact (like my 10th grade English teacher Karl Hicks) you have had upon reshaping my life and thinking.
It was actually Mr. Hicks that opend my eyes on how to combat racism. How to “fight back” without the violence. How words can move a nation; while tamming a spirit.
Unfortunately, he passed away more than 10 years ago; but his teachings and spirit lives on in me. As does the words of King and Malcolm X.
The true spirit of Anglo Americans can never be fully realized nor appreciated by their counterparts-(White Folks). But most African Americans have “white friends” I don’t know too many who don’t.
I know that one day, America will have an abundance of peoples, minds and cultures working together tiwards solving and resolving many of the social and econmic problems that plauge of country instead of “races and classes” working against one another.
